¡Día de graduación, empoderamiento y salud sexual en Community! Graduation Day, Empowerment and Sexual Health at Community!

Hoy concluí el primer Ciclo de Talleres de Salud Sexual en Community Healther Worker Program, de East Harlem, Nueva York. El tema del último taller fue "Empoderamiento y Sexualidad". Todas las mujeres participantes empezaron por comentar qué era lo que ellas entendían de "empoderamiento", y después revisamos algunos elementos que de acuerdo a Naciones Unidas forman parte del empoderamiento femenino. Una vez comprendido el concepto, todas las participantes tuvieron que discutir en equipos qué cosas habían aprendido en los talleres pasados que relacionaran con sentirse empoderadas. Para finalizar, organizamos un pequeño Simposio sobre "Empoderamiento y Sexualidad", donde cuatro de ellas compartieron sus reflexiones. Esto fue seguido por la entrega de Diplomas para quienes habían asistido a la mayoría de los talleres, así como un convivio con mucha comida, incluyendo unos tamales muy picantes que a todos nos trajeron recuerdos de México.

Today I concluded the First Sexual Health Workshop Series at Community Health Worker Program, in East Harlem, New York. The theme of the last workshop was: "Empowerment and Sexuality". All the women that participated began by discussing what they understood with "empowerment", and afterwards, we talked about some of the elements of "femenine empowerment" according to United Nations. Once the concept was clear, all the women had to talk in groups about the things that they had learned from past workshops which they related to feeling empowered. To conclude,we organize a little Symposium about "Empowerment and Sexuality", where four women shared their own reflections. This was followed by the presentation of the Diplomas to the women that had attended most of the workshops and by a social gathering with lots of food, including some hot "tamales" that brought memories from Mexico.
