¿Alguna
vez te has preguntado qué “palabras sexuales” se relación con tu propio
sentimiento de auto-valía? ¿O qué palabras son esenciales para que tomes
decisiones sobre tu propia sexualidad? ¿O qué palabras te permiten mantener una
comunicación sexual asertiva?
El
Jueves 26 de Abril, el Segundo Grupo de Mujeres que tomó la Segunda Serie de Talleres de Salud
Sexual en Community Health Worker Program en el Este de Harlem tuvo que pensar
en 10 “palabras sexuales” que hubieran aprendido durante la Serie de Talleres,
las cuales relacionaran con sentirse empoderadas. El resultado fueron varios
Diccionarios de Empoderamiento Sexual que cubrían un vasto vocabulario,
incluyendo palabras como:
- Vagina
- Condón
- Homosexualidad
- Heterosexualidad
- Placer
- Erotismo
- Derechos
Sexuales
- Violencia
doméstica
El
lenguaje juega un papel muy importante en el empoderamiento, porque si no
sabemos la manera en que debemos referirnos a algo o el significado de un
concepto en particular, ¿cómo vamos a tomar las mejores decisiones sobre
nuestra sexualidad? El lenguaje nos abre oportunidades y recursos, por lo que les
pedí a todas que atesoraran sus Diccionarios.
El
final del Taller fue muy divertido y lleno de emociones.
Organizamos
un Simposio titulado “Cambiando al mundo con la salud sexual”, en el cual las
mujeres tuvieron que elaborar propuestas para promover la salud sexual. Con mi
Iphone grabé todas sus participaciones, y pasaron un buen rato viéndose a sí
mismas hablar.
Les
dije adiós a todas reconociendo el gran valor que veo en ellas: como
inmigrantes que a pesar de tantas dificultades han conseguido obtener mejores
oportunidades de vida para ellas y sus familias, y como mujeres que ahora están
buscando maneras para mejorar su bienestar sexual. Su valor es inusual y
continúa sorprendiéndome.
Las
mujeres recibieron Diplomas por haber asistido a los Talleres de Salud Sexual.

Have
you ever wondered which “sexual words” are related to your own feeling of
self-worthiness? Or which words are essential to make decisions regarding your
own sexuality? Or which words allow you to maintain an assertive sexual
communication?
On
Thursday April 26th, the Second Group of Women that took the Sexual
Health Workshops at Community Health Worker Program in East Harlem had to think
about 10 “sexual words” that they had learned during the Workshop Series, which
they related to feeling empowered. The result were several Dictionaries of
Sexual Empowerment that covered a vast vocabulary, including words such as:
- Vagina
- Condom
- Homosexuality
- Heterosexuality
- Pleasure
- Eroticism
- Sexual
Rights
- Domestic
Violence
Language
plays a very important part in empowerment, because if we don’t know how to
refer to something or the meaning of a particular concept, how are we going to
take the best choices regarding our sexuality? Language opens opportunities and
resources, thus, I asked all of them to treasure their Dictionaries.
The
end of the Workshop was very funny and full with emotions.
We
organized a Symposium entitled “Changing the world with sexual health”, in
which the women had to elaborate proposals to promote sexual health. With my
Iphone I recorded all their participations, and they spent a good time watching
themselves speaking.
I
said goodbye to all by acknowledging the huge value I see in them: as
immigrants that despite many difficulties have managed to get better life
opportunities for them and their families, and as women that now are seeking ways
to improve their sexual well being. Their courage is unusual and continues to
amaze me.
The
women received Diplomas for having attended the Sexual Health Workshops. You
